The gnus name comes from the Greek helios meaning sun and anthemon meaning flower. The species name relates to coin-shaped flowers. In the wild, flowers of Helianthemum nummularium or Common rock rose, are yellow although cultivated varieties can range from white to deep red.
Although some of its common names suggest it is a sun-loving plant and the plant only opens its flowers in fine weather, it always directs them away from the sun. Only one opens ata a time per inflorescence and each lasts for a day.

Comparison between other flowers
Aspen:
Both Rock rose and Aspen can be used for extreme-fear and near panic-attack but the Aspen remedy is normally used for the fear of unknown things while Rock rose is normally utilised when a person experiences extreme panic and fear due to trauma or other reasons.
Mimulus:
Mimulus is the remedy for known fears, while Rock rose is the remedy for extreme terror and near panic attacks.
